The 8th Annual Retail Banking and Fintech Africa Forum commenced yesterday gathering banking and technology leaders to hold a constructive dialogue on the future of African retail banking and the need for innovation to fuel economic growth.
29th September 2016, Johannesburg : 8th Annual Retail Banking and FinTech Africa Forum kicked off yesterday at the Hayatt Regency, Johannesburg – Republic of South Africa which witnessed global banking and technology leaders come together and hold a dialogue on the future of retail banking in Africa and driving innovation in banking technology. The forum was inaugurated by the opening remarks from the chair – Bevereley Hunkin, Strategic Risk and Governance Solutions Head – FNB and Jean R Rey, Chairman and Independent Director – Atria-Africa Fund Manager, followed by a session where Bevereley Hunkin elaborated on managing risk and driving innovation to boost competitiveness of the banking industry. “How To Build a Great Retail Banking System”, was the main focus for Vimal Kumar, Chief Sales & Distribution Officer – Barclays Africa Group Limited. The CEO & Founders CONFAB, brainstormed on The Pan-African Banking Strategy and was joined by Funeka Montjane, Chief Executive- Personal and Business Banking South Africa at Standard Bank, Dr. Lance Mambondiani, CEO at Steward Bank, Timothy Nuy, Deputy CEO at MyBucks and Brett Magrath, Co-Founder of Zoona. Chandramouli Kundagrami, Head of digital strategy at Infosys Finacle elaborated on ‘The Future is one of #TrulyDigital banks. One of the key highlights among post lunch sessions was the Guru Panel discussion on ‘Defining drivers of an engaging retail banking experience’ which was joined by Yolande Steyn, Mumbi Odame- Channel and Cash Management Operations at Barclays Africa Group, Thomas Gachie- Director of Operations at National Bank of Kenya) and Shaun Meyer- Director of Sales at Temenos.The concluding session of the day was “Storytelling Session” on importing the best practices in retail banking. The session was moderated by Jean R Rey – Chairman and Director, Atria-Africa Fund and also discussed the importance of innovation in mobile banking, online security and fresh retail products.
