Moreira Chonguica to debut in Washington DC
Award winning Mozambican Saxophonist, Moreira Chonguica has been invited to perform at the IBERIAN SUITE FESTIVAL with some members of The Moreira Project. This will be his debut performance in the US with his own band.
Moreira will take part in the festival’s opening performance on March 3, 2015 at the Eisenhower Theatre along with singers Carminho from Portugal, Eugenua Leon from Mexico, dance company Grupo Corpo from Brazil, the Arakaendar Choir and Orchestra from Bolivia/UK and ballet dancers Angel and Carmen Corella from Spain. The Moreira Project will perform a full length show on March 7, 2015 on the Millenium Stage of the JF Kennedy Centre.
The Iberian Suite: global arts remix is a major festival designed to highlight the many cultures that comprise the Portuguese and Spanish speaking communities and the impact they have had throughout the world and the vast influences they have embraced from other cultures.
The festival curated by Alicia Adams, Vice President of International Programming and Dance will include dozens of performances by some the world’s best contemporary music, dance and theatre artists – many of whom are making their US or Washington DC debuts. There will also be several exhibitions and installations highlighting the visual arts from these cultures and additional events will focus on literature, design, and cuisine.
There are artists and musicians from all corners of the globe participating in the festival. Dancers from Brazil, Portugal and Spain; Theatre from Cape Verde, Portugal and Spain; Music from Mozambique, Bolivia, Colombia, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Chile, Argentina and Cuba.
