Hot young DJ’s for the 2013 RedSquare DJ KnockOut Challenge Final
Summer is about to get even hotter thanks to the Red Square Dj Knockout Challenge final on December 16 at Giant Stadium in Soshanguve.
The battle lines have been drawn and the stakes are high as a young and talented deejay that will emerge an overall winner will take home R100 000 in cash and deejaying equipment worth R120 000. The first runner up takes home a cheque of R15 000 and the third placed dj will be awarded R5000.
On the other hand the crowds have made it clear, during the auditions, who their favourites are and that list includes Dj Pulz from Vaal, Dj Soulsync also from Vaal, Divalash from Pretoria and Dj Kwanele from Soweto.
Musa “Soulsync” Motha who is the second youngest contender at age of 18 and despite being physically challenged he feels that he stands a fair chance to also win this competition. This young man had to get his leg amputated when he was just 8 years old after he was diagnosed with cancer that was found to be in the bone in his leg.
This did not discourage Soulsync from following his dreams because before he even started deejaying he was in fact a dancer.
“I don’t feel that I am different from other people, so I don’t even act differently. I am in it to win it and I feel my love of music will be the one that gets me the prize. I look up to Black Coffee and also want to have my own recording studio and to just push my music,” he said.
This young man spent two years of his life in hospital and he says he is just grateful each day that he is alive. He just passed his Grade 10 and feels this will be a great validation as to his love of music should he win the competition.
Pule Dj Pulz Ntsala also from Vereeniging, plays hip-hop and feels that makes him stand an even better chance to win. Last year he got to the finals, coming only second, and believes that this year is his year and he cannot wait to win all that prize money.
“I play hip hop because I love it. There is no two ways about it and I enjoy what I do and feel it is an advantage because most of the dj’s in the competition play house music. I want to be known in the same calibre as djs like the Naked dj, Milkshake and Speedster” he said.
Kagiso Divalash Modiselle is no stranger to most as she raised eyebrows from the onset. Some of the audience and competitors have raised suspicion about her gender, challenging it and actually alleging that Divalash is in fact male. This though did not deflate Divalashe’s eagerness and determination. This year is her fourth time entering the competition and she says that she will not allow anything to make her lose focus from her goal of becoming the winner. “I mean business, I just have to win it this time around” Divalash said
Dj Kwanele Sikakane seems to be the final king as this is the 3rd final he has gotten to in this competition. The 29 year old from JabulanI, Soweto says that this is the last time he will enter and he has no choice but to win it this year because this will be the last year he will be entering. This house dj started out playing with cassettes then moved to vinyl and then to cds and that makes him one of the few deejays that play with three cdj’s at a time.
“I have learnt from my mistakes and I know better and have even learned what the judges are looking for. I stand a better chance because I am experienced and I just have to win it,” he said.
At the end there will be about 14 finalists and the final will take place at Giant Stadium in Soshanguve on December 16.
Glen Lewis, Vetkoek vs Mahoota, Naked DJ, Amon Mokoena and Mlu are among featured performers at the ReddSquare DJ KnockOut finals. Doors open at 12-midday and tickets are R40 at the gates.
