Cape Legends Wines Celebrate a Medal Bonanza at IWSC
Wines from the Cape Legends portfolio amassed an array of awards which included three gold medals at this year’s International Wine & Spirit Competition.
“The Cape Legends’ portfolio is built on heritage, innovation, passion, people, responsibility and respect. These are qualities that are appreciated internationally, as demonstrated by this latest performance at the IWSC,” says Cape Legends Marketing Director Ross Sleet. “Notably, the award winners included wines from our two Fairtrade wine ranges as well, the Place in the Sun and Earthbound brands.”
Demonstrating the diversity of the portfolio, the winning gold medals were: Le Bonheur Prima 2009, described by the esteemed judging panel as being “rich and well layered with great structure”; the Neethlingshof The Six Flowers 2013, rated as a “beautifully balanced” wine; and, the Stellenzicht Rhapsody 2007, which received a top rating for its “great balance [and] good mature notes in long finish”.
In addition to its gold winners, Cape Legends also collected 10 Silver Outstanding awards, which went to Lomond Syrah 2011, Lomond Conebush Syrah 2011, Plaisir de Merle Grand Brut 2011, Alto Shiraz 2011, Fleur du Cap Unfiltered Merlot 2011, Le Bonheur Tricorne 2009, Le Bonheur Sauvignon Blanc 2013, Allesverloren Shiraz 2012, Fleur du Cap Noble Late Harvest 2013 and Pongrácz Desiderius 2008.
The IWSC was founded in 1969 to promote the quality and excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs. It is the premier competition of its kind, thanks to an experienced panel of experts and a rigorous two-stage judging which involves blind tasting and laboratory analysis.
The IWSC’s award winning South African, Chilean and Argentine wines were announced on September 10, on the first day of the Beautiful South Tasting at Olympia Central in London.
The IWSC’s Annual Awards Banquet will take place on November 12 at the Guildhall in London. The top performing products will be showcased at the dinner.
