BIRCHWOOD HOTEL TO HOST A SOUL SOOTHING JAZZ EVENING
This October, the Birchwood Jazz Evening will be exploring what it means to be a young African. Award-winning Afro-soul singer, Maleh, will take the stage as the headline act and will be supported by jazz musician Malik Zwane, ensuring the evening is a cultural showcase of African talent for local jazz-lovers on Friday, 7 October.
Maleh, formerly part of the group Khaya, has received a number of nominations over the years and won The Best African Adult Album Award for “You Make my Heart Go” in 2015. She has also performed with the likes of Zahara, Kerry Hilson and Angie Stone, and has topped the iTunes charts in South Africa, Mozambique, Swaziland, Botswana and Europe.
Also taking to the Birchwood stage on October 7 is the multi-talented Malik Zwane, who has just returned to the music scene after a four year break. Zwane is also known for his song writing abilities and has worked with e.tv’s Rhythm City, Ringo Madlingozi, Brickz and Zola.
Each month, the Birchwood Jazz Evening highlights emerging talent and invites upcoming artists to open the evening’s festivities. This month, Sounds and Experience, described as an Afro-soul group with Pop and Jazz influences who exemplify the local talent that Johannesburg has to offer, will do the honours. The Daveytown-locals have just released their second album; which they describe as a harmonic composition with a distinctive groove.
Hosted by motivational speaker and presenter, Hector Motivator, the evening will also feature comedian, Napsta, known for his clean-cut Christian content, as well as comedian Kgomotso “The Hitman” Madimetya, a member of the Tshwane Comedy Society.
